LOCAL RESTORATION COMPANY AND LARGE RETAIL BOX STORE CITED BY EPA FOR LEAD BASED PAINT RENOVATION, REPAIR AND PAINTING (RRP) VIOLATIONS
As the year comes to an end, just a reminder: make sure your contractor has the proper certifications and training before hiring them. This year a Sullivan, MO area Restoration Company was fined $30,000 by the EPA for violations of the TSCA Act and the RRP Rule. In addition a large retail box store that has a location in Washington and Sullivan, MO was fined $500,000 for violations. In 2010 the EPA began requiring firms performing renovation, repair and painting project projects that disturb lead based paint in any way to be start certified and trained to prevent lead contamination. SERVPRO of Franklin County has been a certified Lead Safe Firm since the inception of the program and all of its employees have been properly trained to prevent lead contamination.
Lead is known to cause damage to the brain and nervous system, behavior problems, slowed growth, headaches, anemia and in rare cases seizures, coma and even death.
